Car turns left into traffic gap but doesn’t check for bicycles

On my way to work I experienced a not uncommon incident. Riding on the cycle lane with both lanes of traffic to my left and some space in between with grass etc. A car wants to turn left, is waiting for a gap in the oncoming traffic. The gap appears and he quickly turns left - and overlooks me as I pass over the street. I did shout and he did make some sort of apologetic gesture.
